Common Questions, Answered First
Before You Call
Most people who contact us have the same five or six questions, and they deserve an answer before a salesperson gets involved. The list below is answer-first on purpose: the first sentence of each one is the answer, and the rest is the reason. If your question is not here, the contact page reaches a technician, not a call center.
Two things come up often enough to say plainly. First, the site walk and the camera map are free and carry no obligation. Second, we would rather repair a system than replace it, so if you are reading this because your cameras went dark, start with the cameras not working page before you assume the worst.
The Questions
Cameras, Doors, Alarms, and the Fine Print
Do you work with the cameras I already have?
Usually, yes. We take over existing systems all the time. If the cameras and cabling are in good shape, we would rather repair and upgrade than sell you a full replacement you do not need.
Do you serve homes as well as businesses?
Both. We install for houses, gated neighborhoods, and rental properties as well as commercial buildings, warehouses, churches, schools, and healthcare facilities.
How much does a security camera system cost in Tulsa?
It depends on the property and how much coverage you need, which is exactly what the free site walk and camera map are for. You get a written quote tied to the map, with no obligation.
Can I see my cameras on my phone?
Yes. Every system we install comes with mobile access, and we set it up and test it on your phone before we leave.
How long does an installation take?
A basic residential setup is usually done within a few hours. A larger commercial or multi-building installation may take a full day or more. We work to keep disruption low while we are on site.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Tulsa Surveillance Technologies holds Oklahoma Alarm License No. AC440731 and carries liability insurance.
What happens if something stops working later?
Call us. Because we installed it and know your setup, most issues get diagnosed on the phone before anyone rolls a truck.
Do I need a permit to install security cameras in Oklahoma?
For cameras on your own property, no permit is normally required in Tulsa or the surrounding cities. Alarm systems that will be monitored or that dispatch police can require a city alarm permit; Tulsa, for example, registers alarm users. We tell you on the walk if your system falls into that category.
Is it legal to record audio as well as video?
Oklahoma is a one-party consent state for audio, which means you can record conversations you are part of, but recording other people’s private conversations is a different matter. Most of our commercial systems record video only. If you want audio at a register or a reception desk, we will talk through where it is appropriate and recommend you confirm with your attorney.
How long is footage kept?
As long as the recorder has room for. We size storage to your retention goal, typically 30 days for a home or small business and longer where an insurer, a school district, or a landlord requires it. The quote states the retention in days so there are no surprises.
Will my cameras work if the internet goes down?
Yes. Recording happens on the recorder or on the camera itself, not in the cloud, so footage keeps being saved during an outage. Remote viewing on your phone comes back when the connection does. Cloud-only platforms are the exception and we tell you when a design depends on one.
Can you add cameras to a system later?
Yes, and because we installed the original system we know what the recorder and the network can take. Adding a camera to a run we pulled is usually a short visit. The camera map is updated so it still matches what is on the wall.
Do you offer monitoring?
Live video monitoring is available through the AI platforms we install, such as CHeKT and Evolon, where a verified event goes to an operator who can issue a warning or dispatch police. Ask on the walk whether your property is a fit and what it costs per month.
What areas do you serve?
Tulsa and the greater Tulsa metro, including Broken Arrow, Jenks, Bixby, Owasso, Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Catoosa, and Glenpool. If you are a little outside that, call and ask.
Do you install doorbell cameras and smart locks?
Yes. For a home we install video doorbells and smart locks alongside the cameras, and for a business the same job is usually an intercom and an access control reader at the door.
What is the difference between dome, turret, and bullet cameras?
A dome sits in a protective bubble and is hard to tamper with, which suits ceilings and public areas. A turret is a ball in a mount, easy to aim and less prone to glare from infrared at night. A bullet is the long visible housing that says “you are on camera” and reaches further down a drive or a fence line. We mix them on most properties.
Do you take over systems another company installed?
All the time. Send photos of the cameras and the recorder, or book a walk, and we will test what you have and tell you what is worth keeping. There is no charge to look.
How do I pay, and when?
By check or major credit card. The standard terms are half on acceptance of the quote and the balance within thirty days of completion, as set out in our terms of sale and service.
What brands of cameras do you install?
Axis Communications, Hanwha, Digital Watchdog, Uniview, and Hikvision for cameras, Brivo for access control, Eagle Eye for cloud video, Ubiquiti where a network is part of the job, and Qolsys and ELK for alarm panels. We are dealers across all of them and choose per position rather than per catalog.
How soon can you come out?
A technician calls back the same business day, and the site walk is usually within a few days. Service calls for existing customers are same-day where the schedule allows, and most are diagnosed on the phone first.
Can tenants or employees be told they are on camera?
They should be, and in most workplaces and rentals signage is the simplest way. Cameras belong in common areas and at entrances, never in bathrooms, bedrooms, or anywhere a person reasonably expects privacy. We design to that line and say so on the map.
Questions That Need a Site Walk
Three questions cannot be answered honestly from a desk. How much will it cost, how many cameras do I need, and can my old system be saved all depend on the property, the lighting, the existing wiring, and what you need the footage to prove. That is what the walk is for, and it is why the quote is a drawing rather than a parts list. The cost page explains what drives the number up or down, and the takeover page covers what happens when the last installer stopped answering.
