Surveillance Hardware and Software in Tulsa

The recorder, the storage, and the video management software that turn cameras into footage you can actually find.

Without the Right Hardware the Footage Is Useless

Hardware is the part of a surveillance system that lets you view, store, search, and export what the cameras see. In practice that means a recorder or a cloud service, enough storage for your retention target, a network that can carry the video, and the software you will use to look at it. Tulsa Surveillance Technologies supplies and configures all of it for Tulsa homes and businesses, and where you already own a compatible PC, television, or recorder we use it first.

Some customers are technical and own everything already; for them we connect the cameras to the equipment they have and make sure the footage is easy to monitor. Most prefer to leave the details to us. Either way, the hardware is sized on the site walk and written on the quote, so there is no surprise about what sits in the closet or what it costs per month.

Recorders, Storage, and the Network

A network video recorder is the standard for an IP system. It powers the cameras over ethernet, stores the video on its own drives, and serves the mobile app, and it keeps recording when the internet drops. Storage is sized to the number of cameras, the resolution, and the days of retention on the quote, with headroom so a busy week does not overwrite last week. For analog takeovers a digital video recorder or a hybrid unit keeps the existing cameras working.

Cloud recording is the alternative where an owner wants nothing to maintain on site or needs the same view across several locations. We install Eagle Eye for that and tell you plainly what the monthly fee buys and what happens during an outage. On the network side, a dedicated switch for the cameras keeps video traffic off the office network, and a correctly configured router is what makes remote viewing work without opening ports you should not open.

Video Management Software We Recommend

The software is what you will actually touch, so we only install platforms we support day to day: Digital Watchdog Spectrum IPVMS, Axis Camera Station and Axis Companion, Hanwha Wisenet WAVE, Milestone XProtect, Avigilon Control Center, and Blue Iris. Each has strengths. Spectrum and WAVE are quick to learn and strong on search. Camera Station is the natural fit for an Axis system. Milestone and Avigilon scale to large commercial sites. Blue Iris runs on a PC a small business already owns.

Whichever platform is chosen, the setup is the same: cameras named by position so the map and the software agree, motion zones tuned, retention set, users created with the right permissions, and the mobile app installed and tested on your phone. We also show you how to find a clip by time and export it, because that is the moment the system has to earn its keep.

How We Size a System

Storage is arithmetic. Each camera produces a known amount of video per day at its resolution and frame rate, motion recording cuts that by a share that depends on how busy the scene is, and the retention target in days multiplies it. We run that calculation on the walk, add headroom, and write the drive size and the retention on the quote so nobody discovers in month three that the footage from month one is gone.

The network gets the same attention. A dedicated switch for the cameras keeps video off the office network, power over ethernet runs the cameras without a separate power supply at each one, and the router is configured so remote viewing works without opening ports that should stay closed. Where an existing PC or television will be the viewing station, we confirm it can run the software before we promise it will.

Questions

Hardware Questions

Either. A network video recorder on site keeps recording through an internet outage and costs nothing per month; a cloud platform such as Eagle Eye removes the box from your closet and adds a monthly fee. We size and quote both when it is a close call.

Often, yes. If you have a PC or a television that will serve as the viewing station, we use it first. Occasionally updated hardware is needed, but not often when the equipment was already used for surveillance.

In some circumstances we can arrange leasing of surveillance hardware, which helps when budget is the concern for a business. Ask on the walk.
