Security Camera Types We Install in Tulsa

Dome, turret, bullet, and PTZ, from Axis, Hanwha, Digital Watchdog, Uniview, and Hikvision, chosen per position rather than per catalog.

The Camera Is Chosen for the Spot, Not the Other Way Around

The primary component of any surveillance system is the camera, and choosing one is where most people get stuck. Every brand makes promises and every housing looks the same on a shelf. The honest answer is that the right camera depends on the position: how far away the subject will be, how much light there is at night, whether someone can reach it, and whether you want it seen or discreet. Tulsa Surveillance Technologies installs cameras of every type across Tulsa, and the choice is made on the walk, position by position, and written on the map.

This page explains the four housings and the brands we stand behind. The installation page covers how a system is designed and installed, and the hardware and software page covers the recorder and the software behind the cameras.

Reliability Starts With the Mount

A reliable camera gives you consistently clear footage in every situation, and that depends on the install as much as the hardware. A poorly mounted camera of excellent quality produces unsatisfactory footage or gaps in coverage. Each one is aimed with the live view open and focused for the distance that matters.

Dome, Turret, Bullet, and PTZ

Dome Cameras

A dome sits inside a tinted or clear bubble, which hides where it is pointing and makes it hard to knock out of alignment or vandalize. That makes it the choice for ceilings in lobbies, hallways, stairwells, and anywhere the public can reach. The trade-off is that the bubble can throw infrared back into the lens at night, so exterior domes need care in placement.

Turret Cameras

A turret is a ball in a mount with the lens exposed, easy to aim and free of the glare problem. It has become the default exterior camera on most of our installs: walls, soffits, and eaves at homes, businesses, and apartment buildings. It is also the easiest housing to add an audio pickup to where that is appropriate.

Bullet Cameras

A bullet is the long housing everyone recognizes. It is a visible deterrent and it carries a longer lens and stronger infrared, which is what you want down a driveway, along a fence line, over a loading dock, or across a parking lot. It is the housing most likely to be noticed, which is sometimes the point.

PTZ and Specialty Cameras

A pan-tilt-zoom camera covers a yard, a lot, or a long perimeter that a fixed camera cannot, and can follow a vehicle or a person under operator or automatic control. Multi-sensor cameras put three or four views in one housing on a corner. License plate cameras read plates at a gate or an exit, which has its own page under license plate cameras, and solar cameras handle positions with no power, covered under solar camera installation.

The Brands We Recommend

We are a dealer or certified installer across Axis Communications, Hanwha, Digital Watchdog, Uniview, Hikvision, Brivo, Eagle Eye, and Ubiquiti. Axis and Hanwha are the top tier: the image processing, the low-light performance, and the build quality justify the price on sites where a clear face or a plate at night is the whole job, such as a school entrance or a cash office. Digital Watchdog, Uniview, and Hikvision cover the large middle of the market at a lower cost per position and are what most homes and small businesses end up with.

Being manufacturer neutral is the point. The platform is chosen for the property, the budget, and how you will actually use the system, and we service what we install. If you already own cameras from one of these brands, or from another, the walk includes testing them and they stay on the map if they work.

Questions

Camera Questions

The one that fits the position and the budget. Axis and Hanwha are the top tier we install for demanding sites; Digital Watchdog, Uniview, and Hikvision cover most commercial and residential jobs well. We are dealers across all of them, which is why we can say that.

Enough to identify what matters at the distance it happens. Four to five megapixels covers most positions; a wide parking lot or a long drive may need more, or a second camera. Resolution is wasted if the lens and the placement are wrong.

Yes, with infrared illumination, and the better ones produce usable colour at night with a little ambient light. On the walk we look at the property after dark where that matters, because a lot that is bright at noon can be black at 2 AM.
